Ronald W. Smith served as Duke Ellington’s hair stylist, valet and chauffeur for many years. He was thus in the position to observe and enjoy the personal style and unique working habits of the Duke.
Smith later became a hair stylist at the major motion picture studios in Hollywood, working with many stars of television and motion picture. He was nominated for four Emmys for his work in television.
Smith worked on the early seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. After his death in 1995, the season-four premiere "The Way of the Warrior" was dedicated to his memory.
